Importantly, because the CO removal rate is not altered, the OH/CO abundance ratio is unaffected when the FUV is turned on, and the transition from the CO-dominated to the OH-dominated regimes still occurs near the H-to-H 2 transition. One mole of Acetic Acid [C2H2(OH)2] and two moles of Dioxygen [O2] react to form two moles of Carbon Dioxide [CO2] and two moles of Water [H2O] Show Chemical Structure Image Reaction Type
SolutionStart with the Carbon. It's really a toss-up between it and the Hydrogen, but you can just ignore the Oxygen off the top, since it is by itself on one side, making it easy to fix at the end. Since you have minimum 6 Carbons on the right, you need at least 6 CO2 to balance the Carbon, as CO2 has only 1 each. 6CO2 + H2O -----> C6H12O6 + O2 The Carbon is balanced, so let's try to balance the Hydrogen now. Since there are 12 Hydrogens on the right, we need 6 H2O to balance, as there are 2 Hydrogens in each. 6CO2 + 6H2O -----> C6H12O6 + O2 Checking both sides again, we see that both sides have the same number of Carbon and Hydrogen, so now let's look at the Oxygen. Counting the left side, we see that there are 6(2) + 6 = 18 Oxygen. However, the right side only has 6 + 2 = 8 Oxygen. Fortunately, the difference of 10 is an even number, so all we need to do is increase the coefficient for O2 until we get 18 on the right side. Since each additional O2 provides 2 additional Oxygen, we will need 10/2=5 ADDITIONAL O2. The new coefficient should be 6, giving: 6CO2+6H2O -----> C6H12O6 + 6O2 Checking both sides, we now see that it is balancedSuggest Corrections0

Access through your institutionHighlights•CeO2-Co(OH)2 was prepared through one-step electro-deposition strategy.•The content of oxygen vacancies increased by the introduction of CeO2 into Co(OH)2.•The electron environment of Co and Ce can be tuned by adjusting Co to Ce ratio.•The optimized CeO2-Co(OH)2 was active for HER and obtain highly active electrocatalyst for the whole electrochemical water splitting is of importance to generate hydrogen. Co(OH)2 is used as electrocatalyst towards OER, however, the performance can be improved further. Usually, to construct the interface and adjust the electronic environment of electrocatalysts are regarded as powerful ways to improve the activity. Herein, CeO2-Co(OH)2 sheets supported on copper foam (CF) are fabricated by electrodeposition method. The morphology and the electron structure of metals are adjusted by changing the molar ratio of Co to Ce, thus, resulting in different electrocatalytic activity. The optimal hybrids of CeO2-Co(OH)2 exhibits lower overpotentials of 188, 269 mV to reach 10 mA cm−2 towards HER and OER, respectively, and good stability. Notably, it is found that the electroactivity is extremely superior to that of bare CF as well as the counterparts in the literature. Also, we try to employ M(OH)2 (M = Fe, Ni) to substitute Co(OH)2 to investigate the effect of species of hydroxides on the electron interaction between CeO2 and hydroxides, the XPS results indicate that Ce and Co shows stronger electron interaction compared to other two control hydroxides. As electrocatalysts for alkaline full water splitting, CeO2-Co(OH)2 requires a cell voltage of V to drive 10 mA cm−2. Dalton Trans. 2022. Abstract In recent years, Co-based metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) have received significant research interest because of their large specific surface area, high porosity, tunable structure and topological flexibility. However, their comparatively weak electrical conductivity and inferior stability drastically restrict the application of Co-MOFs in the synthesis of electrocatalysts. In this study, ZIF-67 was grown on nickel foam by a room temperature soaking method, and then Ir-Co(OH)2@ZIF-67/NF was assembled by a hydrothermal method. The prepared Ir-Co(OH)2@ZIF-67/NF nanosheets exhibit remarkable conductivity, larger electrochemical active surface area and wider electron transport channels. Only ultralow overpotentials of 198 mV, 263 mV, and 300 mV were needed for Ir-Co(OH)2@ZIF-67/NF to reach the current densities of 10 mA cm-2, 50 mA cm-2, 100 mA cm-2, meanwhile, no obvious degradation of the current density at 10 mA cm-2 was observed for about 16 h. This work may provide a promising strategy for developing high-performance MOF-derived materials as electrocatalysts for the OER under alkaline conditions. 1. Introduction The solid structure of cobalt(II) carbonate hydroxide [Co 2 CO 3 (OH) 2] is important for technological and environmental reasons. It is commonly used as a precursor in the synthesis of cobalt oxides (Li et al., 2006 , 2012 ; Xie et al., 2010 ; Xu & Zeng, 2003 ), which have a wide range of technological applications as petroleum catalysts, magnetic materials, semiconductors
You follow a systematic procedure to balance the equation. Start with the unbalanced equation: #"CH"_3"OH" + "O"_2 → "CO"_2 + "H"_2"O"# A method that often works is first to balance everything other than #"O"# and #"H"#, then balance #"O"#, and finally balance #"H"#. Another useful procedure is to start with what looks like the most complicated formula. The most complicated formula looks like #"CH"_3"OH"#. We put a 1 in front of it to remind ourselves that the number is now fixed. We start with #color(red)(1)"CH"_3"OH" + "O"_2 → "CO"_2 + "H"_2"O"# Balance #"C"#: We have #"1 C"# on the left, so we need #"1 C"# on the right. We put a 1 in front of the #"CO"_2#. #color(red)(1)"CH"_3"OH" + "O"_2 → color(blue)(1)"CO"_2 + "H"_2"O"# Balance #"H"#: We can't balance #"O"# because we have two oxygen-containing molecules without coefficients. ∴ Let's balance #"H"# instead. We have #"4 H"# on the left, so we need #"4 H"# on the right. There are already #"2 H"# atoms on the right. We must put a 2 in front of the #"H"_2"O"#. #color(red)(1)"CH"_3"OH" + "O"_2 → color(blue)(1)"CO"_2 + color(orange)(2)"H"_2"O"# Balance #"O"#: We have fixed #"4 O"# on the right and #"1 O"# on the left. We need #"3 O"# on the left. Uh, oh! Fractions! We start over, this time doubling all the coefficients. #color(red)(2)"CH"_3"OH" + "O"_2 → color(blue)(2)"CO"_2 + color(orange)(4)"H"_2"O"# Now we can balance #"O"# by putting a 3 in front of #"O"_2# #color(red)(2)"CH"_3"OH" + color(purple)(3)"O"_2 → color(blue)(2)"CO"_2 + color(orange)(4)"H"_2"O"# Every formula now has a coefficient. We should have a balanced equation.
